Thousands of Pro-Palestinian Protesters March Through Central London
Thousands of pro-Palestinian protestors marched through central London today. They followed a route from BBC’s Broadcasting House to the the Cenotaph in Whitehall.
Broadcasting House was sprayed with red paint overnight, but the police say they cannot confirm if it was linked to the protest.
The protestors are critical of Israel’s actions in Gaza, where more than 2,000 people have died in airstrikes over the last week.
Israel claims it is acting in self-defence, after Hamas attacked Israel last Saturday killing at least 1300 people. At least 120 Israeli hostages are still being held by Hamas, and the militant group continues to fire missiles into Israel.
A mass exodus is now underway in Gaza following an Israeli warning that the 1.1M civilians in north Gaza should evacuate to the south.
This move has been condemned by the UN as a ‘crime against humanity and a blatant violation of international humanitarian law’. But the Israeli envoy to the UN responded saying: ‘It would be better for the UN to focus now on returning the captives, condemning Hamas and supporting Israel’s right to defend itself’.
