Vayeisheiv - Laibl's Weekly Parsha Video

Vayeisheiv (Sat. 12th Dec./26th Kislev) (CHANNUKA)
Living a Material Life – Spiritually.
Laibl's Weekly Parsha Video
Joseph has two dreams in one night – one mundane and the other is heavenly. We too live lives separated neatly into two compartments.  The ideal is to synthesize these two dimensions of life into elevating the material to the spiritual.
Notes:
• in this week’s Parsha, Vayeishev, Joseph dreams twice. One concerns typical daily activity in an agricultural society – farming, binding sheaves.  The second is other worldly and centres on the sun, moon, and stars.
• In a sense these two dreams represent two axes of our lives – the quest for survival by dealing with life’s daily needs, and the quest for deeper meaning.
• For many people these two dimensions are neatly separated. The spiritual is nominally reserved for Shabbos and the other six days are the true reality.
• By Joseph dreaming the two dreams in one single night the Torah is informing us that the material and the spiritual are halves of one whole.  Our material must be suffused by the spiritual and the spiritual is to be expressed through the physical.
• When we are engaged in making a living, one must be mindful of the ultimate goal – sharing with others, giving Tzeddaka, recognising the source of our successes. And in living a consciously spiritual life one understands that the purpose of dealing at the coal face of physical and material challenge is to elevate the seemingly ordinary appearance of life and invest it with higher meaning.
• Do you succeed in unifying the physical and spiritual in your life?
