Sistering floor joists due to termite damage in crawlspace (and how to use a nail gun!)

We're repairing these floor joists in a tight, confined space. Using a pneumatic nail gun is difficult because the gun cannot be turned easily due to the confined space and the size of the gun, but those are the conditions we have to work within.

We're also using cedar or cypress as a sister to the existing joist because: (1) that matches the original construction and the original construction already stood the test of time at almost 100 years; (2) those species are typically stronger and larger than yellow pine; and (3) those species are also naturally more resistant to termites than untreated pine or SPF lumber (SPF means Spruce, Pine, or Fir).

Remember to always consult with termite specialist before determining whether you have termites, beetles, other wood destroying insects, or even over kinds of pests. Also consult with a structural engineer to design a repair that meets local building codes and engineering requirements. Finally, wear PPE (Personal Protective Equipment).
