Tiny Wolf Pups Embark on a Wild Conservation Journey

On May 7, 2023, the Endangered Wolf Center flew two 8-day-old Mexican wolf pups to New Mexico to be fostered into a wild pack.

This collaborative effort between the Endangered Wolf Center, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and its partners represents hope for a species on the brink of extinction.

The two pups sent to the wild from the Endangered Wolf Center are genetically valuable, as their father, Nashoba, is the first and only Mexican wolf born from artificial insemination using frozen-thawed semen from a wolf that had no other offspring. Nashoba has now passed on these important genetics to another generation that will grow up in the wild.
