Every week is #WolfAwarenessWeek for us at the Endangered Wolf Center, but we love having the chance to celebrate wolves even more! 💛

But first, let’s share a bit of history about the Endangered Wolf Center and why we started our mission. It all started in 1971 when Marlin Perkins, beloved zoologist and celebrity wildlife expert, and his wife, Carol, turned their attention toward one endangered animal in particular – the wolf.

They joined with a group of individuals to found the Endangered Wolf Center to address the severe plight of wolves at risk of extinction. When they did, only SEVEN Mexican wolves could be found in the world. And so it began…

Marlin and Carol founded the EWC to change the fate of endangered canids through carefully managed breeding programs, inspiring educational programs, and innovative methods for introducing releasable wolves into their native habitats.
