Fishan & the females at the mud wallow! And elephant, Limpopo doesn’t want to leave!

Lundi and the females enjoy a glorious afternoon in the wallow with Fishan in the middle of the wet cool mud.

Khanyisa and allomother Kumbura both enjoy a roll around — it’s wonderful to see Kumbura letting her hair / trunk down and enjoying herself. Timisa ambles about between the big bodies and helps keep a trunk on Khanyisa to make sure she is ok. Tokwe and Limpopo are right beside them and even Bubi moves in to make sure everyone (mostly Khanyisa) is safe and sound.

Adine walks and talks with Carer, Shepherd who keeps an eye on Khanyisa out in the bush, especially when the young calf wanders off on her own.

Limpopo seems by far to be the biggest wallower on this day and has no intention of leaving once she gets her spot in the muddy rink! Her mother Tokwe even joins her and the duo soak up the coolness of the earth beneath their large bodies. They are careful not to tread on one another or Khanyisa at all times.

This lovely thick mud coats the elephants’ bodies with a natural skin protector, keeping them safe from biting insects out in the wilderness and the African sun’s harsh rays. Khanyisa especially gets a vital benefit from the mud as an albino elephant.
