NATO to bolster forces due to Russia threat
NATO says it is deploying land and maritime forces in eastern Europe and has accused Russia of not de-escalating its military units on the border with Ukraine.
General Secretary Jens Stoltenberg stressed the organisation wanted to resolve the conflict with Moscow through diplomacy.
But he said more NATO units could be deployed in the future.
"Russia’s actions pose a serious threat to Euro-Atlantic security. As a consequence and to ensure the defence of all Allies, we are deploying additional land forces in the eastern part of the Alliance, as well as additional maritime and air assets, as announced by Allies, and have increased the readiness of our forces," a NATO statement said.
