EXPLORING FLORIDA’S NATURAL SPRINGS, THE SECRET GEMS OF FLORIDA S1 || Ep12

Our drive from Orlando to family in St. Augustine takes us through Ocala National Forest where we have our first experience with the hidden gems of Florida, natural springs.

We stopped at Juniper Springs Recreational Area to camp and felt like we were driving through South America as we chose our site. The springs themselves are breathtaking and not just because the water is a brisk 72 degrees all year round. Our first day swimming was slightly interrupted by Jess losing an earring, but Corey and the girls were up for the challenge!

Juniper Springs was the first National Park/Forest we have visited that was built by the CCC, Civilian Conservation Corp, during FDR’s presidency. The history of this place blew our minds and made us want to research even more about this ingenious program that helped so many during the Great Depression and literally built our National Parks.

The greatest lesson we have learned lately is to just stop if something looks cool or if someone recommends a place to us. We are always so glad when we do, and Juniper Springs did not disappoint! On our way from Juniper to Jess’ grandmothers house, we drove by Salt Springs and had to take our own advice and pull in. The spring offered new wildlife to observe, was a little salty, and had the most amazing trees we have ever seen all around it. It was the perfect end to our stay in Central Florida.
