Jordan Peterson - How to Properly Correct Someone

Jordan Peterson explains how to properly correct someone using the example of tickling a baby. When you are doing something worthwhile you are doing a whole bunch of things simultaneously. So for example when you are tickling a baby, you are also playing with the baby, you are taking care of your family, you are being a good parent and you are being a good person. You are not really aware of all those things, but you are in some sense. Because if someone might come along and say only an idiot would tickle a baby like that, they would nail you down on the micro tickle level, but also on the macro (good parent/person) level. It's the sort of thing you want to do if you want to hurt someone. But if you want to help someone, you teach them down at the smallest possible level (micro tickle level). So you should always correct someone on the smallest possible level and say, look here's a bunch of things you're doing right that are related to this that are important, here's a small thing that maybe you could alter slightly and it would make me happy and maybe I'll return the favor at some point. And this really works with people.
