Mikey is a ten-month-old mini German Shepherd mix with the sweetest personality. He is a happy, tail-wagging puppy who loves everyone he meets. When volunteers enter his run, all Mikey wants to do is give kisses. He has that fun, playful puppy energy without being overwhelming. He even showed interest in playing ball, just hasn’t quite figured it out yet. Mikey is very treat motivated, eager to please, and will likely pick up training quickly.
Penny is a ten-month-old young pup with the sweetest, most gentle soul. When volunteers approach her kennel, she waits patiently at the door hoping someone will notice her. The moment she’s spoken to, her ears perk up and she looks at you like you are the best part of her day. She knows sit, loves treats, and is clearly smart and eager to learn. She also has a soft, affectionate side, leaning into people for pets and attention like she’s been waiting her whole life for it.
Mikey and Penny were found together as strays on a preschool’s property. Two young puppies, navigating the world side by side, clinging to each other for comfort and support. Now, their lives are on the line. These are not dogs who are broken or unadoptable. They are young, social, loving puppies who simply ran out of time in an overcrowded shelter system.
We are trying everything we can to step in, but we cannot pull them without the funds to cover their care. The estimated goal to save both Mikey and Penny is $2,400, which will go toward their pull fees, medical intake, vaccines, and initial care. Without that support, we cannot say yes, even though everything in us wants to.
We know it’s hard to understand why we don’t just pull them first, but the reality is simple: if we take on dogs without funding, we risk being unable to continue saving others in need. We are trying to do this responsibly, but time is something Mikey and Penny do not have.
