‘Andrews will be the last one standing’: Accuracy of Sutton’s testimony questioned

The Victorian Department of Health has been asked to hand down renewed documents to the Inquiry into hotel quarantine as a result of concerns about the accuracy of Chief Health Officer Brett Sutton’s testimony.

The Age has reported Mr Sutton in September stipulated both verbally and on paper he was not aware private security companies were being used for hotel quarantine security purposes until late May when he heard about the Rydges Hotel outbreak.

The claims were brought into question after several senior departmental sources suggested Professor Sutton was aware of the decision much earlier.

The PR Counsel’s Kristy McSweeney commented, “it is now an exercise in buck passing and everybody covering their own tracks”.

“The premier will be the last one standing.”
