Hurricane Laura continues to strengthen in the Gulf of Mexico and is a category 3 major hurricane with winds of 125mph. Laura is now forecast to make landfall along in Texas and Louisiana as a category 4 hurricane by the NHC, bringing potentially unsurvivable conditions as stated in the latest forecast discussion by the National Hurricane Center. Hurricane warnings are now in place ahead of the hurricane, which is forecast to make landfall in under 24 hours in either western Louisiana or far eastern Texas as a powerful major hurricane. Many evacuations orders are also in place, and these alongside any last-minute preparations should be rushed to completion this morning local time.

Impacts from Hurricane Laura could be life-threatening and may include: a storm surge of 15-20 feet that can penetrate up to 30 miles inland, rainfall of 10-15 inches that may cause flash flooding, and major hurricane-force sustained winds near the landfall location, with damaging winds extending much further out. While the exact landfall for Laura isn't pinned down quite yet, all residents under the hurricane warning zone should be preparing as if they may be receiving a powerful category four hurricane impact. It's always best to over-prepare for a potential storm like Laura than to be under-prepared.
