Title: Ice sheets in the CMIP6 model UKESM1

Abstract: The timescales of ice sheet change are long compared with typical climate model simulations of 100 years, so why include them? What are the key interactive features of ice sheets we might want to include and how do we adapt the climate model to such requirements? We do not want inclusion of the ice sheet to cause an unacceptable increase in model run time so, compromises must be made. We look at solutions to these problems in the current generation of models, and the evaluation of performance. We also examine the impact of model resolution, and how the next generation of model may advance the fidelity of simulations.
