Community & Public Health Nursing Immersion - ILX 4 Tutorial

This is the tutorial for the fourth Immersive Learning Experience (ILX) for the Community and Public Health Immersion clinical immersive experiences ("BoilerTown USA") - where the learner interviews community leaders in a disaster response.

In BoilerTown USA, the learner is role-playing as a public health nursing specialist that is on a ‘fact-finding site visitation to BoilerTownUSA – a city that is regarded as a ‘best practice model’ related to (analyze) the context of public health and specialty nursing practice regarding ethics, equity and public health mandates.

This requires the learner to appraise population health and health risks and assess the quality indicators that relate to public health interventions. They will research and strategize methods to integrate public health nursing principles to optimize health outcomes and decrease health risks.

To be successful, the learner must apply systems thinking to improve the quality of public health care and health outcomes. As an indicator of this application, the learner will describe new insights and formulate innovative solutions related to strategic planning to improve population health outcomes.

During the visit, the learner will use college-level communication through the oral delivery of original materials in Standard English. They will apply Critical Thinking to use principles of sound reasoning. Additionally, they will formulate innovative solutions for identified initiatives.
