Tools/Supplies Needed:
-400 grit wet/dry sandpaper
-1000 grit wet/dry sandpaper
-Spray Max 2k clear coat
-isopropyl alcohol
-clean cloth
-tape and paper
Procedure:
First is cleaning the headlights which I have already done. The next step is taping any adjacent areas to protect the paint.
Now is wet sanding the headlights with 400 grit sandpaper. This step should remove a majority of the surface damage along with the old UV coating so you’re not left with any ghosting outlines once done.
Wet sand using 400 grit sandpaper to remove a majority of the surface damage and old UV coating. Then move onto 1000 grit to prep the surface for a clear coat, rinse the sandpaper, and light as needed.
Once satisfied with the previous step, move onto 1000 grit sandpaper. Again is wet sanding, always make sure the sandpaper is pre-soaked and the areas well lubricated. Rinse the sandpaper as needed.
Moving on, dry the headlight and then apply new tape to the surrounding area. Apply paper after this so we don’t get any overspray on the paint.
Clean the headlight with a clean cloth and isopropyl alcohol. Allowed to evaporate after.
Here I am using spray Max 2K clearcoat, this is by far the best product to apply to your headlights. This is a two-part product that has an activator tab on the bottom to mix in the hardener.
Apply it to the headlight in light even coats. Then allow the first coat to set up for about 10 minutes and apply a second coat. Two coats are only needed and if done correctly, no wet sanding and polishing as needed after.
After the final coat, wait about 30 minutes before removing the tape and paper. This will be dry within a few hours.
After that, you are officially done.
