“Once back in 1973, when I was in college, we went on a hike with a group of students. It was winter, December, there were 2 weeks before Christmas. There were 5 of us - me, Charley, Jack, Alice and Betty. We went we were in a mountainous area, which was 1300 yards above sea level. We were all well equipped, skiing, we also had a tent, food supplies, and everything necessary for such conditions. The first 2 days everything went according to plan, but the snow that fell without interruption intensified, and covered the path we walked. Our feet sank into the snow deeper and deeper, and we decided to find a place to sleep in a nearby village. The village was very close, 1.5 miles from our route. When we got to the village, first of all we went to a local cafe, to drink hot tea. We also asked people where it is possible to rent accommodation here to spend the night. We were recommended the old man Howard's house. We went to his house, knocked on the door, the old man opened it for us. He was very friendly and welcomed us. The house was wooden, large and cozy, Howard showed us the rooms where we can stay. There were only 3 vacant rooms, 2 of them on the first floor, and one on the second - the attic. Charley and Jack stayed in one room, Alice and Betty in the second, and I chose the attic because I liked it here the most. The room was very warm and cozy, the room had a fireplace that heated very well, an armchair by the window, a small bed, and a Christmas tree. I felt special here, I was calm and good. I sat down in a chair and began to watch the blizzard outside the window, its sounds, combined with the sounds of the fireplace, very relaxed me. My eyes began to close and I moved to the bed, as tomorrow was an interesting day. I fell asleep sweetly ..." To be continued.
