Catastrophic Cyclone Yasa Makes Landfall in Fiji - Automated Streaming Service

Cyclone Yasa has remained an extremely powerful category 5 storm on the Australian scale and is now a category 4 on the Saffir-Simpson scale with winds of 240kph / 150mph after some weakening as the cyclone approaches Fiji. Conditions are rapidly deteriorating across Fiji, where a landfall ha just occurred. Despite the storm's current intensity, people should not focus on minor changes in the maximum wind speeds, as 5kph changes won't change the major impacts that are anticipated with the cyclone. Yasa is also forecast to bring over 500 millimeters of rainfall to much of Fiji, and some areas could see isolated totals above 750 millimeters as the cyclone passes the region, alongside significant storm surge in low-lying coastal regions, alongside potentially catastrophic winds in the eyewall of the cyclone.
