Honeys - HE'S A DOLL (Gold Star Studio) (Wrecking Crew) (1964)

NO COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT INTENDED - (Warner Bros. 5430) This Spectoresque Girl Group disc issued in April of 1964 features the voices of sisters, Diane and Marilyn Rovelle (Wilson) with their cousin, Ginger Blake and comes from the musical genius that is Mr. BRIAN WILSON. Recorded at Hollywood's Gold Star Studio utilizing an ensemble of L.A.'s 'Wrecking Crew', a castanet clacking, drum-filled slice of Surf meets the 'Wall of Sound' was created. It's a shame that this musical jewel displaying Brian's well known admiration of Phil Spector's production technique, didn't even chart. Wilson's work with The Honeys and Sharon Marie were exceptionally fine examples of the L.A. Girl Pop sound and deserved to be acknowledged when originally released but were unfortunately overlooked by radio programers.
