LOVELITES - Unreleased 1964 Philles session tape transfered to digital

NO COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT INTENDED

July 2, 2015
At 'History of Recorded Sounds' in Culver City, California with Len Horowitz
(9:00 p.m.- 11:00 p.m.)

Converting the elusive Philles three track master of 'Please Be My Boyfriend' to digital. Originally recorded at Broadway Recording Sudios in New York City, the reel of 1/2 inch tape has the dates noted on the box: 7/9/64 and 8/4/64. The 29 minutes of recording includes the basic rhythm track, a few overdubs of additional instruments, a take with the lead vocal of Joanna DeClemente of Phi-Dan girl group the LOVELITES and several takes of lead with background vocals of the ORCHIDS.
The session was produced by Peter Andrioli (Anders) & Vincent Poncia who also composed the tune with Phil Spector. No arranger credit.
Since it appeared that the Lovelites version was shelved with no backing vocals ever added to the mix, the question is, how did the unfinished recording end up with the Orchids vocals added to it?
In the early 1990's, a very nice 7 inch disc was manufactured in Japan of the Orchids version of 'Please Be My Boyfriend' on one side incorrectly credited to the Crystals with a label in the image of a Gold Star Recording Studios acetate. The EEOC Jerry Riopelle produced version 'Things Are Changing' by the Blossoms was pressed on the other side with an image of the original promotional label.
