Song For Spot

I've always had some fascination for the creative potential of fusing poetry and jazz (I don't mean songs with lyrics ); in this case free jazz . I think the very high semantic ambiguity of poetry when combined with music ( also a metaphorical language ) can yield a very intense effect ; if you're paying attention. This is another post from my 1998 CD "Language Arts" Featuring legendary drummer "Rokalam" Bob Moses . Also Featured on this CD is Maria Schneider's Multi woodwind virtuoso Charles Pillow . I was lucky to have Rock of Gibraltar Bassist "Chuck Bergeron" who also my brilliant producer . My spoken word piece "Song for Spot" is read by my old friend ,and theater director, Jeff Hume. The carnival like theme just fell out of the piano of its own volition one night in a practice room . As soon as I had it ; I knew It should be treated as a free piece . What I like best about this piece is how much ground it covers (i.e. how many moods it generates ) I tried to accentuate this quality with the video . The overall result is very surprising to me : I mean I am really happy with it ! :-) I hope you listen to the end because theres dessert !
