Peta Credlin grills Brett Sutton over key email chains

Sky News Host Peta Credlin has cross-examined Victoria's Chief Health Officer Brett Sutton who spoke at Saturday’s press conference after a week of absence.

Professor Sutton has been criticised after he failed to table two email chains which showed he was aware private security firms were being used to quarantine COVID-19 cases.

The Coate Inquiry held an extraordinary session at 2pm on Tuesday in which it discussed the secret emails from Brett Sutton which were omitted from evidence by the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS).

Professor Sutton has been asked to submit an affidavit as the hotel quarantine inquiry seeks an explanation as to why the key emails weren't tendered during an extraordinary session on Tuesday.

Ms Credlin questioned the Chief Health Officer over the Cedar Meats Cluster, asking him why he didn’t shut the meat works down sooner.

Mr Sutton responded, "my recollection is there were only a few cases when that was raised with me, the shutting down of Cedar Meats, and I gave my advice to shut it down immediately".

However, he dodged further questions after Ms Credlin pointed out his deputy had ordered a number of Cedar Meats workers to quarantine before the decision to close the facility down was made by Mr Sutton.
