STEAM in the City: The Power of Experiential Learning
STEAM in the City, an initiative powered by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF), Barnard College, and the office of Community Engagement. It is a week-long training program for K-8 grade teachers working in the Harlem and Morningside Heights neighborhoods. The program is back for its second year with a bigger cohort than last year with 19 teachers taking part in it this year. STEAM in the City provides local teachers instruction and curriculum in science, technology, engineering, the arts and math which they can take back to their own classrooms and students. During the week-long session at Barnard College, the teacher's spent time in Morningside Park, the Design Center, bee colony, and the greenhouse on campus, and engaged in many hands on activities in the classroom.
