Slender Man stabbing: Psychologists say killer could pose risk to public with conditional release

Two psychologists testified Wednesday that a Wisconsin woman who, at age 12, stabbed a sixth-grade classmate nearly to death to please the online horror character ‘Slender Man’ should not be released yet from a psychiatric hospital. Morgan Geyser, now 21, is petitioning to leave Winnebago Mental Health Institute with conditions.
Psychologist Deborah Collins said Geyser has made progress but said that she could pose a risk to the public. According to Collins, Geyser told her in October that she’s “never known how to care.” Collins said those could have been emotionally-charged comments made during a therapy session, but that the comments being made so close to petitioning for release was “a potential red flag”.
Another therapist, Brooke Lundbohm, said that a pattern of “resistance” that Geyser has displayed to medical and therapeutic interventions raises concerns about her insight, judgment, motivations and willingness to comply in the community.
Waukesha County Judge Michael Bohren is hearing from experts to determine whether to grant the release. The hearing will resume Thursday with cross-examination by Geyser's attorney.
