Tech Talks: PA46 Stanyl in gears; expanding to low(er) temperature applications

For gear applications, Stanyl finds its major use typically in the automotive industry specifically for high temperature applications. More recently we have been testing various plastic materials at other temperature conditions focusing on the lower temperature range with Stanyl gears showing best performance also at these lower operating temperatures. This is related to the fact that due to the frictional heat generated in the gear teeth, the leading design temperature is the tooth temperature of the gear, which affects the performance of plastics rather than the ambient temperature. With internal gear testing we have established that Stanyl brings added durability in application at ambient temperatures ranging from RT to 120 °C and at high torques where more common materials such as POM and PA66 are not able to meet the gear lifetime requirements.
