Cycling Safety: Innovating in protective clothing

In sports like cycling, ice-hockey and speed skating severe scratch and abrasion injuries are part of the athlete's life. Giovanni Henssen, shocked by these injuries, realized that DSM's Dyneema fiber could be a solution to this problem.

Giovanni and his team worked on specialized clothing that improve protection of the athletes during a crash, whilst remaining comfortable and unprohibitive to the sport. The cycling shorts have been used by Olympic cyclists who have reported that they were indeed well protected during some of their falls.

It is Giovanni's dream that within a short period of time these shorts can be easily obtained by every athlete, both amateur and professional.
