Yellammanaata Mela : At Gender Bender 2017

This is was the very first show of Yellammanaata Mela in Bangalore, in September 2017
'Yellammanaata Mela' is an ensemble of actors and musicians that intend to recreate the experience of ‘Yellammanaata’(Folk telling of goddess Yellamma's story) for an urban audience while sticking to the original music and form as much as possible. One of the key elements retained from this form is that the actors are cross-dressed to play their respective characters.
This piece was produced by Sandbox Collective, Goethe-Institute and Ladies Finger.
We hope the research and training with Jogathis, Devadasis and expert practitioners of 'Yellammanaata' will help with the continual building of this piece for an urban audience.
