Van Halen were(are?) very skilled in taking rock music which is usually doom-laden and minor sounding and injecting some good time vibes.

The guitar drops out at 6:12 so you can practice both rhythm and lead over just drums and bass.

This guitar jam track basically goes from E to A and back.

You could use the E minor blues scale over the whole of this backing track, but everybody wants some good times so try adding some Mixolydian licks along side the blues scale. Use E Mixolydian for the E section and A Mixolydian for the A section.
