Gary Moore Rock Ballad Backing Track In A Minor, Harmonic Minor Lesson.

BACKING TRACK STARTS AT 0:52
This is a rock ballad backing track in the style of the great Gary Moore, a natural born guitarist if there ever was one.
It is in the key of A minor, with a descending bass line, A-G-F#-F-E
The Chords
Am, Am/G, D/F#, F, E7

Now for the blues/rock guitar lesson.
Here E7 is the V chord of A minor and should be a minor chord instead it is E7, a dominant chord. This is a common alteration which makes the return to A minor, the tonic chord, much stronger. You can highlight this change in your solo by raising the b7(G) a semitone to a maj7(G#).
A good scale choice for this jam track would be the A natural minor scale, when you get to the E7 chord substitute the G with a G#, you will now be playing the A harmonic minor scale. There are diagrams in the video to help with this.

But you could just improvise on your guitar with the A pentatonic minor scale over the backing track, it will still sound great, or even better mix up all three scales as I did in the intro solo.

Have fun.
