COVID RIGHTS AND WRONGS
Now throughout the pandemic, we’ve been 'following the science'. But what about other experts? Philosophers could tell us whether lockdown is really the moral way forward and how to balance the costs to livelihoods and lives. Cindy is joined by two colleagues from the University of Oxford. Professor Julian Savulescu is director, and Professor Dominic Wilkinson is the medical director, at the Uehiro Centre for Practical Ethics.
Julian tells Cindy: 'We have to not have this almost maniacal obsession with Covid deaths as the only measure. I've seen estimates that roughly as many people will die as a result of lockdown measures.'

CHINA BUYS CAMBRIDGE
In the cover story for this week's magazine, journalist Ian Williams takes a look at the cosy relationship between Cambridge University and the Chinese Communist Party. He makes his case with Professor Kerry Brown, director of the Lau China Institute at King’s College London.
Ian says: 'When I talk about naivety in academia, I don't think these institutions appreciate just how calculating China can be.'
ARTIST CANCELLED, THEN UNCANCELLED
Is cancel culture ruining art? After writing a forthright blog about her views on gender identity, the artist Jess de Wahls has been accused of being a transphobe for years. Recently her critics hunted her down and she was cancelled - then un-cancelled. She joins SpectatorTV to tell her story.
Jess tells Cindy: '‘My dad likes to put on makeup and heels and nails. I think he quite enjoys when people look and go “what?” According to Stonewall he would be transgender.’
