Where to Start with Star Wars EU Books

What Star Wars Legends books should I read first? If you want to get into the old Star Wars Expanded Universe, watch this. I'm talking about the EU Legends continuity here, the pre-Disney Star Wars Legends. I won't be talking about the books and comics in the Disney-era continuity.

Even then, where do you start? There's 250+ Star Wars EU books, hundreds of comics and probably 50 video games. How do you even start dividing up all that Legends stuff to talk about?

This video focuses on what some might call the “original” Star Wars Legends, which kicked off in the 1990s. This part of the Star Wars Expanded Universe is a largely-connected web of stories in all types of media, which aims to tell the ongoing story of the Star Wars universe after Return of the Jedi.

The best gateway into the Star Wars Legends is Shadows of the Empire. After that, my recommendations are as follows:

The X-Wing series
The Dark Empire comics
The Jedi Academy trilogy
I, Jedi
The Courtship of Princess Leia
The "Callista" trilogy
The New Rebellion
The Crimson Empire comics
Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast and Jedi Academy

My best advice is to find some areas in Star Wars Legends that sound interesting to you, and then read around your interests. Ultimately, the key is just to jump into something that takes your fancy and follow it from there. My only advice is to bin off a book if it isn’t working for you. Reading has to be a pleasure or there’s no point!
