#tfgcharitychallenge REVIVING an Antique Writing Desk for a good cause!

Tried a bunch of techniques I’ve never tried before and while they all didn’t work the first time (sigh veneer) I learned a lot and hopefully will be able to save you time when attempting them! Removing veneer is not that hard to do. Applying veneer, well that is a task for a steady hand but not impossible. Repairing veneer, almost fun to do but it requires a good veneer match to make it easier to do. I also learned Birdseye Burl veneer is expensive but, with good reason as it is rare. Matching stain to super light veneer is not easy but can be done if you are patient enough to add layer after layer of stain. This whole piece took me about two months (I have a regular job and I worked on other pieces at the same time too.) I love the results but as I ran into parts I was not able to repair and I added the Kintsugi effect in one area while also doing a fabric on wood technique that I love; this is now more of an art piece. I have donated it to The Exchange, a charity shop that supports the arts. I have donated my pieces to charity shops before but because I put so much of my own taste in it, I am feeling nervous about it. I can’t even bring myself to check on it.
