How to become a British citizen?
What are the steps I need to take to become a British Citizen?
Here I have summarised all the steps that are generally followed from start until the completion of your British Citizenship application, including your British Passport.
This video will help to guide you on what are the 10 main steps to do this. This will also point you to the other videos that I made specifically discussing those main steps.
For Step 1, here are the important information that must be gathered first before you start your application, as mentioned in the video.
Challenging Ones:
1. Pass the Life in the UK Test - which is a requirement for your ILR application. If you already passed during that application, you can use this certificate for BC application.
2. Prove your English Language knowledge unless you are from countries that are exempted from this requirement
3. Find two referees - You will need their Full Name, Passport Details, Addresses for the past 3 years, DOB, Contact Details
Easy Ones:
1. Current Passport
2. ILR or BRP Card
3. NI number
4. Tax office reference number
5. Parents Name and Date and Town of Birth
Historical Ones:
1. Previous Addresses for the past 5 years - take note of the dates you lived there from and to
2. Previous UK Visas applied in the UK or abroad - take note of date applied, Reference Number, Date of fingerprints
3. Previous jobs in the UK in the past 10 years - take note of your job title, Employer name, Employer's address, start and end dates
4. Trips outside the UK from the last 5 years - take note of the country you visited, reason for trip, departure and return dates
Relationship Ones (for those applying as a spouse or civil partner of a British Citizen):
1. Birth Certificate for Partner's Date of Birth and Town of Birth
2. Marriage Certificate for your wedding date and place
Finances:
£1349.20 = £1330 (fee) + £19.20 (biometric)
