Referees for {British Citizenship applications} | UK Citizenship Referee Requirements 2021

Are you looking to find who can be a referee for your British citizenship application? Do you want to know the requirements one has to fulfil to be a referee?

In this video, we explore the requirements that need to be met to be an acceptable referee.

You will need two referees to endorse your British Citizenship application. One referee must be a person of any nationality who has a professional standing and the second referee must normally be a holder of a British Citizen passport and either a professional person or over the age of 25. In both cases, the referee’s must have known the applicant for 3 years or more. As at least one referees is required to be of professional standing, according to the guidance, the list of acceptable referees for UK naturalization is described in detail in the video.

For child applicants at least one of the referees must be a person who has dealt with the child in a professional role such as a teacher, doctor, health visitor or social worker. Where a child cannot provide a referee who has dealt with them in a professional capacity and has provided documents to show that they have attempted to do so, you can accept 2 referees who meet the criteria for referees on adult applications.
