Before & After The Pour - Fun With Concrete - For All Kids Young & Old
The first concrete pour that I was involved with was when my dad contracted out the concrete pour for a new home one summer when I was 13 and convinced the contractor that if he (my dad) paid my wages, the contractor would let me participate in setting up the basement forms help with the actual pour.
What an awesome dad! When he didn't have the time or ability to teach me what he felt were practical skills, he found others. He did that often. It's how I learned to weld, to frame, to landscape, to grade lumber and operate a range of heavy equipment - all before I turned 20.
I still recall as clear as if it was yesterday the race against time that is involved with concrete - and while there were numerous pours that I was involved in over the years that followed, the thrill, the stress, the raw physicality and the ultimate satisfaction are the same for me today as was that first basement pour.
