VINTAGE Sankyo 45-Minute Wind-Up Mechanical Time Switch

Originally recorded June 3, 2023.

I've had this item since I was young. It's a 45-minute wind-up mechanical time switch, our of an oscillating fan. My father fond said fan thrown out somewhere in his travels in the early to mid 1980s. He picked it up and brought it home. I was way too young to take notice of what brand it was or anything else about it. All I do remember is that the blades were blue, and one was broken, which was why it was thrown out. My dad tried gluing pennies to the broken blade to balance it out. While it certainly wasn't perfect, he got it to run, though shaky. His original intent was to take it home and tinker with it. He did. He was done with it, so it was ready to be thrown out, but not before stripping it for parts. This timer was part of the controls panel on the fan. I have not seen any others that had this option, though I am sure they exist, they just were not common. You can wind the timer up for up to 45 minutes, at which point the fan would shut off. Or you can wind the timer slightly the other way, which will turn it on and leave it on.
