Elk Creek Fire contained, officials say private debris burn is cause

Firefighting engines and a hotshot crew have a complete sawline around the Elk Creek Fire, 20 miles southwest of Philipsburg.

The local Pintler Ranger District is now taking over. Even though high winds blew through, firefighters were able to keep the fire to 99 acres. The Beaverhead Deerlodge National forest now says it was an accidental escaped debris burn that started on private property and spread to Forest Service land.
