Why Former Maine DMV Worker Says He Quit Over Internal Issues

🚨 A former Maine DMV examiner is raising concerns about how driver’s license tests were administered.

The former employee, who worked more than a decade before leaving in 2024, alleged that some applicants used outside interpreters during learner’s permit exams and claimed unusually high pass rates in those cases compared to typical results.

Maine allows non-citizens with valid legal status to obtain driver’s licenses, including certain visa holders and asylum applicants. Following the allegations, state officials moved to restrict or ban the use of outside translators during testing.

The claims have drawn attention from lawmakers calling for further review, as questions continue about testing standards and oversight. What changes, if any, should states make to licensing processes? 👇
