Hand Yoga (III): Spirituality and neuroscience meet. Brain, hands, mouth, safety and connection
Do you know that your brain pays proportionally more attention to your hands and your face than to the rest of your body? No wonder touch and smiling are so powerful and healing. The good news of is you can cultivate certain simple techniques like smiling to yourself and others with self-acceptance and compassion as a way of releasing past burdens and opening up to new possibilities. I said it is simple, not that it is easy. But it can be practiced and it slowly becomes a habit that the brain and the nervous system learn.
An ancient technique that helps with this coming out of the prison of our repetitive negative thoughts is focusing the attention in Hand Mudras which come from the wisdom healing tradition of Classical Yoga. These mudras are ancient hand gestures to concentrate "prana" (your vital and spiritual energy) to experience inner peace and connect with that Universal Consciousness that is within us and around us.
In this video, continuing with our series on the Gayatri Mudras and a prayer that accompanies them,
we go a step further in the symbolism of these ancient mudras. The whole philosophy of Classical Yoga on how to come back home to our deeper Self is represented in these mudras. I invite you to experience it as you practice along.
If you want to see Indian scholar and beloved spiritual teacher Baba Hari Dass, from whom I learned them, practicing the mudras,
please watch this video
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gx7_quOvjQk
Hope they will be a source of inner peace for you too.
If, for whatever reason, this or any other practice doesn't naturally resonate with you, don't force anything...... nor judge yourself... simply understand that you are in a journey of discovery of inner guidance and with kindness to yourself and others... continue your journey of unfolding consciousness ...... wishing you inner peace and good health
