“Faith Journeys with God in the Land” Part 28

The Mark 2 (Luke 5) story comes to life in this reconstructed stone house at the Talmudic Village of Katzrin. Even though the ruins at this site date 100s of years after the time of Jesus, this restored house gives us a good “visual” of what houses look like in days of antiquity. The story of Mark 2 involves a paralyzed man who is lowered through the roof to Jesus below. It is a remarkable story of seeing Jesus’ authority (s’mekah) in action in two ways: Jesus heals the man and forgives his sins.

In our faith walk with God, the healing of our soul is a more important experience. We all stand in constant need for God to forgive us of sin, both our actions of knowingly sinning against God, and the times of unintentional sin (i.e. not acting by faith or sins of omission). Just as this man did not deserved Jesus to offer forgiveness to him and yet was on the receiving end of Jesus’ grace, so we also don’t deserve the same grace. We, too, are born with a sinful disposition (theologians call it original sin). However, Jesus freely offers us “healing of our soul” as we acknowledge and receive Him, and turn to Him for forgiveness.

If you are in need to turn to Jesus today and ask for forgiveness for something you’ve done (or did not do), know that His grace awaits you! We stand redeemed by God’s grace!
