“Faith Journeys with God in the Land” Part 33

How would you describe your prayer life? Consistent? Irregular? Somewhere in between? Mark 1:35 says, "Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.” For Jesus, prayer was an important part of His daily life and ministry.

An early pre-dawn hike with my January 2023 group to “Hill 713” reminded me of the importance of prayer. “Hill 713” is what my old historical geography professor in Jerusalem still calls it today (the Hebrew name is Mitzpe Yamim, meaning “watchtower/view of two seas"). It is located in the Upper Galilee near Mt. Merom. The view from Hill 713 provides the very best view of the entire wide of Israel here in the north. One can see the Golan Heights to the east, and the Carmel Range to the west. In between looking south from here are sites such as the Sea of Galilee, Tiberias, the Arbel Cliffs, the Horns of Hattin, Mt. Tabor, and even the Nazareth Ridge in the Lower Galilee. The view is beyond incredible!

While it took some effort to get up at 4:30 a.m. for the 30 minute drive (from our hotel) and the 25 minute hike to see the sunrise, it was worth it. Wow, it was worth it! In our faith walk with God, it also takes an effort to set aside time to pray, to spend time with God in prayer. Perhaps you, like me, make an excuse of being too tired or busy carve out even a short five or 10 minutes of prayer with God. Yet, the more busy our lives are, the more prayer our walk of faith requires. Don’t neglect making time with God in prayer. Refreshment, strength, encouragement, and the revitalization of our soul awaits!

So be sure to take time to come to the Heavenly Father to commune in prayer with Him! Jesus did this to prepare for each day, and so should we.
