Hermes the harbour seal's groundbreaking kidney procedure
Harbour seals have unique kidneys that make kidney stones very difficult to treat. When 23-year-old Hermes was diagnosed with kidney stones, our veterinary team reached out to the urology department at VGH for advice. Urologist Dr. Ben Chew recommended a new technology under trial at VGH, which was successful in breaking up Hermes' kidney stones! We're thrilled to have Hermes happy, comfortable, and back in our main seal habitat at the Aquarium.
