Spawning Horseshoe Crabs in the Delaware Estuary - America for Kids!

Horseshoe crab spawn at Cooks Beach in New Jersey. The beach is one of many locations along the Cape May Peninsula on the Delaware Bay where the sea creatures wash ashore to mate.

The Delaware Estuary is home to the largest population of horseshoe crabs in the world. Its beaches are the ancient arthropods' spawning grounds, which attract numerous species of migratory shorebirds, who must feed on the horseshoe crab eggs in order to survive.
