Cyclone Mal heads towards Fiji - November 14, 2023

Cyclone Mal is intensifying as it runs towards the Fiji islands, and could reach hurricane equivalent status later today as it draws near. Overnight tonight (local time) into Wednesday, the storm will make its closest pass to Nadi and speed towards the colder waters to the southeast, where the storm will gradually dissolve.

The main threats at the moment are likely to be hazardous coastal conditions, with the strongest winds staying offshore, and rainfall is expected to be a modest 100mm at maximum. However, sudden changes to the storm's track and intensity could increase the threat.
