Al Jolson - Are You Lonesome Tonight (1950)

Despite the claim on the sheet music cover, this was not Jolson's last record, although it was close to it. Recorded April 28, 1950. He recorded a group of Stephen Foster songs in July for an album, and those were his last recordings before his passing in October 1950. "Are You Lonesome Tonight" was originally a hit in 1927 with popular recordings made by artists such as Vaughn De Leath and Henry Burr, and has endured throughout all time. Other charted versions over the years: #19 for Blue Barron and His Orchestra in April 1950 (which I've also posted), #65 on Billboard Hot 100 in February 1959 for Jaye P. Morgan (which I've also posted), #1 for Elvis Presley in November 1960 (also #1 UK, #22 Country, #3 R&B), #14 for Donny Osmond in November 1973 (#31 Adult Contemporary), #46 UK for Elvis Presley in September 1977, #25 UK for Elvis Presley in March 1982 (laughing version), #57 Country for John Schneider and Jill Michaels in 1983, #68 UK for Elvis Presley in August 1991 (live version) and #2 UK for Elvis Presley in February 2005.

Written by Lou Handman and Roy Turk.

B-side is "No Sad Songs for Me" which I've also posted.
