A judge finds Nevada in contempt for failure to pay unemployment benefits.

A Reno District Court Judge held the State of Nevada in contempt of court for failing to follow the court’s order to continue paying unemployment benefits to about 9,000 people.

DETR discontinued paying without notice to those 9,000 people who had begun receiving benefits.

In addition to a $1,000 fine to paid to the court, DETR was ordered to pay within 3 weeks an estimated $90 - 120 million to the claimants.

Judge Breslow noted that the due date for DETR to pay the 9,000 claimants is the day before Christmas.
Time is winding down for Congress and the Senate to pass another stimulus.

Some states and cities are forging ahead to provide relief to residents financially scarred by the crisis.

Alaska, California, Colorado, Maryland, New Mexico, and New York City are among the areas providing additional assistance.

Minnesota lawmakers are working to push through similar measures by proposing $500 one-time payments to families and a 13-week extension to unemployment benefits.

The fresh rounds of assistance these states are providing include stimulus checks, extra unemployment benefits, interest-free loans for small businesses, and housing assistance.

As Congress is set to work overtime this weekend on a proposal together for another relief bill, it seems one thing both sides can agree on is extending weekly unemployment benefits.

According to Forbes, The $908 billion stimulus framework includes $300 weekly federal unemployment benefits and $160 billion in state and local aid.

It also includes another $288 billion for small businesses, $45 billion for transportation, $25 billion for rental assistance, and $35 billion for healthcare.

Congress still needs to decide how retroactive these payments would be and for how long.

Especially with yesterday’s devastating jobs report, we hope that this can provide the extra needed push to get it done.
