With the announcement of the new $908 billion stimulus package by the Problem Solvers Caucus this week, came an onslaught of both Democratic and Republican support for the disaster relief bill.

Republican Representative Tom Reed explained earlier today: “The bottom line is, this is right in the range of reason. It’s not a perfect bill, but it is a compromise bill that can bring people together.”

Democratic Representative Josh Gottheimer echoed these comments, stating: “We’re exhausted ... after how long we’ve been fighting to get something done, but I really believe now you’re seeing the momentum in this next week to get this emergency package into law.”

He continued: “I think there’s a deep recognition ... that we’ve got to get something done. People are really hurting. Small businesses are going out, scores of them, every single day.”

I completely agree with these representatives, as the new stimulus bill will hopefully act as a bridge to get us through the year and into 2021 on solid financial ground.

Meanwhile, the leading Democrats in negotiations on a Phase 4 disaster relief bill, Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer, have agreed to concede on their $2+ trillion stimulus bill and are backing the bipartisan, $908 billion stimulus package.

In a dual statement, they explained: “in the spirit of compromise we believe the bipartisan framework introduced by Senators yesterday should be used as the basis for immediate bipartisan, bicameral negotiations.”

While we know that Pelosi and Schumer don’t want to support a stimulus bill less than $2 trillion, let alone $1 trillion, they stated that they are willing to concede because: “the need to act is immediate.”

I’m glad to hear that the Dems have done their part to approve of this new $908 billion stimulus package, now we wait to see if Congress can finally agree to terms of this long-awaited disaster relief bill.

Finally, we have signs of life and good news from Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell regarding another stimulus package.

The Kentucky Senator explained earlier this morning: “Compromise is within reach. We know where we agree. We can do this.”

McConnell also stated that he is currently seeing “hopeful signs” that another stimulus package can be approved before the end of the year.

While he is not on board with the $908 billion stimulus package, he explained today: “Here in the Senate, I put forward a serious and highly targeted relief proposal including the elements that we know President Trump is ready and willing to sign into law.”

I hope that these dueling parties can work together to finally get on the same page, as we need more stimulus disaster relief funds as soon as possible.
