Virtual care is not a new concept, especially in large geographies with dispersed populations like Northwestern Ontario; however, its use has increased rapidly during COVID-19. This session will explore unique considerations for how to deliver palliative care virtually in the north to support patients in community. Drawing upon patient journeys, participants will learn about challenges, successes, and resources for providing virtual palliative care. Information on an innovative virtual care pilot project that aims to support First Nations communities will also be shared.
Learning Objectives:
-Discuss virtual care and what aspects of a palliative approach to care may be supported virtually in the home
-Describe how virtual palliative care is set up and delivered
-Identify main challenges, keys to success, and resources to support virtual palliative care delivery
