‘I speak as I find’: Andrew Bolt

Sky News host Andrew Bolt says a lot of people don’t understand how media works, and particularly do not understand how News Corp works.

Mr Bolt’s comments come as he is appearing for the last time in a couple of months; Mr Bolt assured he will be back on-air next year.

“A lot of people don’t understand how the media works and it might be good for us all if I said something about it,” Mr Bolt said.

“People particularly don’t understand how this media works, Sky and the Murdoch media, or just how I work.

“I have been used to critics – particularly from the left – saying for years ‘you just write what your bosses say, what Rupert Murdoch says’.”

Mr Bolt said many had speculated “that we get a memo or a wink from Rupert" about what to write.

“That’s never happened," he said.

“I want you to know where I’m coming from, here at Sky and with me there’s ultimately an even greater pressure … the pressure to be true to ourselves, to say what we think no matter the cost.

“I think that this year, of all years, must tell you it’s true, even our enemies … know in their heart of hearts we speak as we find.

“We might not always have it right, but we speak as we find, that’s true here on Sky, it’s true with me.”
