PART 1. Join us for a beautiful day as we take advantage of it (since there have been so few of them lately!) and tackle a major project that has been on our list for awhile; Building and pouring a Ham Radio antenna tower base. The steps in PART 1 include getting the Branson 7845c and Bobcat e42 warmed up and running (It was in the 20's that night), digging the 7'x7'x32" hole next to the house, removing the dirt with the Branson, adding gravel to the base, getting a hinged base template made and ready and welding some tabs on the 12" anchor screws. Watch the Bobcat excavator carefully do its magic up next to the house without ruining anything, loading the dirt into the tractor bucket, and then removing the dirt from the site with the tractor. This antenna base will take 4 cubic yards of concrete. I initially was going to use about 2.75 yards, but since there was an extra $50 fee for loads under 4 yards, I thought it just made sense to make it a little larger and use an even 4 yards. The extra weight of the base will allow me to add sections to the Rohn tower in the future if I wish to do so. The hinged tower base plate will allow us to lay the tower down connected to the hinge plate and lift it up and into place by using the hinges. Stay tuned for PART 2, and all of my new Ham Radio adventures as I am working on building my "Ham Shack!"
