ONE DAY in SPLIT, CROATIA 🇭🇷 Diocletian's Palace, Klis Fortress, and Bene Beach!

We almost skipped over Split completely and continued all the way to Dubrovnik, but we are thrilled that we didn’t!

As I said in the video, at face value, it seems that the draw of Split, Croatia is the promenade on the coast, and taking nothing away from that, there really is a great deal more that the city has to offer!

Since Paige sleeps a bit later than I do, I was able to explore the area north of our apartment a bit by myself in an effort to get some breakfast for us. What I found was a thriving city, loaded with business and restaurants where nearly 180,000 Croatians live! My GPS lead me to a mall where I picked up a quick breakfast for us, and then walked back to our apartment. 1:14

To start our full day in Split, Paige and I started at Diocletian’s Palace, in the Old City of Split, Croatia. Built in the old Roman style, Diocletian was a Roman Emperor from 284-305. In the present day, the city of Split, Croatia runs through the palace and there is plenty of dining and shopping for locals and tourists alike! 2:33

One of the standouts if the Cathedral of St. Domnius which has been converted from the Mausoleum of Diocletian himself. If you buy the ticket for the whole complex, you also gain access to the crypt, and the bell tower—the latter of which provides panoramic views of the entire coast! 5:12

Upon leaving the Diocletian’s Palace, we headed west toward the peninsula that makes up the entirety of Western Split. We saw a Croatian flag in the center of the area and thought it would be a great place to go hiking. It turned out to be a zoo, so instead we walked to the westernmost area to find Bene Beach. 9:05

After 3.5 miles of walking, we reached Bene Beach and to our disappointment, it was not the Instagram moment that we had anticipated. That said, if you’re looking for easy access to the water for swimming, this is a great place to go! 11:08

After walking back to our apartment, we ate some leftovers before our evening plans of seeing the sunset at Klis Fortress. We took an Uber to the Fortress and arrived 8 minutes before it was closing, so they did not allow us to enter. That did not stop us from sending Cedric the Drone up for some aerial footage! 13:01

Once the sun went down, we went back to the old city of Split to find Portofino Restaurant, where we had an amazing dinner! Tony, the manager was fantastic—definitely go check it out and tell Tony we said “hi!” 15:47

Next we head further down the coast to Dubrovnik with a small stopover in Bosnia on the way down!

This is part eighteen in a series that started with flying from London, so if you missed part one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten, eleven, twelve, thirteen, fourteen, fifteen, sixteen or seventeen, be sure to check them out! And as always, thank you for watching!!!
